Diwas Shrestha .NET developer and Business Central technical consultant in Kathmandu, Nepal.

दिवश श्रेष्ठ "diwas" means day in Nepali. Most of mine end up in Business Central.

I write AL and C# for a living. Mostly that means extending Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, moving old Dynamics NAV databases onto it, and building the .NET services that let a POS, a web shop or a warehouse app talk to the ERP without anyone re-typing invoices.

General

A bit about me

I got into software around 2020 and ended up in the ERP world soon after. Since then most of my working hours have gone into Dynamics NAV and Business Central: reading C/AL that someone wrote in 2009, rebuilding it as AL extensions, and checking that the numbers still add up after go-live.

The part I like most is the edge of the ERP. Business Central is a very good ledger. It's less good at talking to a POS terminal in an airport, or to a .NET service that wants new orders every five minutes. That's where C# and ASP.NET Core come in, and where I spend a lot of my time.

Most of my clients are retail and duty-free businesses in the Gulf and the Maldives. I work remotely from Kathmandu, which is a couple of hours ahead of the Gulf, so I'm usually well into my day by the time they log in.

Entry 1Times Square LLCUpgrade from Dynamics NAV 2015 to Business Central 22NAV 2015 → BC 22

A customised NAV 2015 database moved onto Business Central 22. The C/AL modifications were rewritten as AL extensions, the business data went through upgrade codeunits, and the reports were rebuilt for the new platform.

Entry 2Maldives Airports Company LimitedDuty-free POS implementationPOS → Business Central

Point-of-sale for airport duty-free retail, with store transactions flowing into Business Central for inventory, sales and financial posting. Airports don't close, so the integration has to keep up.

Entry 4Bahrain Duty FreeReport migration from NAV 2009 R2 to Business Central 20NAV 2009 R2 → BC 20

Classic NAV 2009 R2 reports don't carry over to Business Central, so they were rebuilt on BC 20: new datasets, new layouts, and the same documents finance and operations were used to.

Things I've written down

Notes from real projects, so I don't have to explain the same thing twice.

Questions

Things people ask me

What does a Business Central technical consultant actually do?

The technical half of a Business Central project: AL extensions, integrations, data migration, reports, upgrades from Dynamics NAV and performance fixes. The functional consultant works out what the business needs, and I make the system do it without breaking the next update.

Can you upgrade our Dynamics NAV to Business Central?

Yes. I've worked on upgrades from NAV 2009 R2 and NAV 2015 to modern Business Central, including turning C/AL modifications into AL extensions, upgrading data and migrating reports. My upgrade guide covers how I approach it.

Can Business Central talk to our .NET application?

Yes. I build ASP.NET Core APIs, background workers and Azure Functions that use Business Central's standard and custom APIs with OAuth 2.0 service-to-service authentication.

Do you work with clients outside Nepal?

Most of my clients are outside Nepal. I've delivered Business Central work for retail and duty-free businesses in Bahrain, the Maldives and the wider Gulf, all remotely from Kathmandu.

Which versions do you work with?

Business Central online and on-premises, plus Dynamics NAV from 2009 R2 onwards when there's an upgrade or an old system to keep alive.

How do we get started?

Send me a few lines through the form below or email [email protected]. I'll reply within a working day and we'll set up a short call to agree on scope, timeline and cost.
